Ms. Bobi said she really enjoyed my story! Yipee! I have been so anxious that this assignment has been on my mind A LOT!!!!

As any instructor, she had some pointers for me. And of course, as soon as I read them, they made perfect sense! My verb tenses need to be more consistent, but she was impressed at how vividly I used all of the senses to draw the scene. That made me Very Happy.

As an aspiring writer, I love to hear what others think of what I have written. So, thanks f0r the good and the bad (I know you meant well!) comments, criticism and the encouragement I received.

I will need to begin my next assignement and have it sent out soon. Ms. Bobi wants it by June 11, 2009.

I get a good feeling from Ms. Bobi and I look forward to learning a great deal from her.

Any suggestions on a non fiction article for 6-8 year olds?

Not in a bad way…at least I don’t think so.

Twitter takes a little getting used to. It was kind of difficult to sum up my thoughts in 140 characters or less! But the more you use Twitter, the easier it gets.

Now listen, if you plan on telling me 5 times that you still need coffee, I am for certainly not going to “follow” you. Follow? you say, oh yeah, the lingo takes a while also. To “follow” someone is the ability to receive their posts (or updates). This part is a little bit like facebook.

Anyway, again, lets be real, I don’t really want to know that you are sitting in the bathtub or anything. If you are making Beef and Broccoli for dinner though, that just might whet my whistle. It might spark my interest in Chinese for dinner, or some other foreign food.

But Twitter isn’t just about what you are eating or where you are either. It is about meeting new and interesting people…at least that is how I feel.

I have only a few people that I “follow” but I receive some really good information. I have learned a lot about my own skills in being an entrepreneur, about placing ads for my business and tons more.

I might not ever meet these people that I follow but it gives me an edge over someone who has no outside connections at all.

Advice, laughs, business needs, famous quotes…and a whole lot more. Twitter is all of this and much, much more.

TRASH DAY

I race outside into the warm sunshine and I slow as I come to the gravel road. There are no cars so I dart across to the oak tree, grab the prickly rope and pull myself onto the seat of the dry wooden swing. I begin to pump my legs in and out as I try to propel myself higher. The cars look like toys on the road down the hill far to my left, they grow smaller the higher I climb.

The old sturdy oak tree is full of vibrant green leaves that rustle in the breeze. The rope creaks as it slides on the rough bark of the branch above my head. As I start to sail higher I catch a whiff of the cows from the Jennings farm. I pump my legs faster so I can fly higher and see farther down the road. The gravel and dirt on the road below beckons me to come back down. Too high and I risk crashing onto the uneven and unforgiving road, yet, I push myself higher.

It is Thursday, and that means it is trash day. On the breeze I hear a distant rumble and I finally catch a glimpse of the yellow and white trash truck as it barrels down the country road.

The wind rushes past my ears as I continue to soar over the ground. The hard wooden swing seat digs into my legs but to no avail, I continue to climb. The sweat begins to collect behind my knees and in the crease of my elbows. I take a deep breath and now the breeze smells of dandelions and daisies. The wind is refreshing as it tumbles over my sweaty skin.

The squeal of breaks startles me from my quiet thoughts. The truck is slowing to make the turn onto my gravel road. A smile comes to my lips and a giggle begins to build in my chest. The mighty rumble of the engine draws near. The lumbering trash truck turns the corner and meanders it’s way up the hill. My giggle escapes like the gas from a shaken soda can. I soar over the road as the diesel engine whines in protest at the steepness of the hill. I lean forward and the driver sees me flying high above his truck. He grins as I pull my hand from the scratchy rope and motion for him to blow his horn.

The driver’s face splits into a dazzling smile as he nods his understanding. My heart skips a beat as the deep resonating tone of the horn explodes into the air. I squeal with delight and wave my thanks as the behemoth winds it’s way up the road.

I close my eyes as the exhaust washes over me. Laughter tumbles from my lips. I crack open my eyes and watch as the trash truck tops the crest of the hill. It slowly slides down the other side and disappears.

The warm breeze brings the smell of sweet wildflowers to my nose that chases away the exhaust. I relax my legs, which slows my flight and I begin my aching gentle descent back to the solid green earth.

I believe that every child is a gift from God. No matter if their parents deserve them or not. Every child should be treated as the gift that they are.

Why I wait until the last minute is beyond me!

It seems simple enough. Taste, touch, smell, hear and see. Remember a moment and jot down all of the emotions (senses) that you can. Then, write the story and use as many senses as you can in your descriptions.

See? It doesn’t sound so hard, does it?

Then why am I stuck on getting it done?

I will update you soon….I best get it done, otherwise, I will just get further behind.
